Off The Grid Community

This is a research project I did during my fifth year of undergraduate studies at Pennsylvania State University. The topic was to research and develop a resilient community that can withstand a recession while also potentially thriving. With this in mind, I chose an off-the-grid community, which emphasizes self-reliance rather than isolation. The people who live here use renewable energy, produce little waste, and grow their own food. This was an excellent exercise in examining how different architectural solutions can fit into different situations, not just through design but also through the practices and systems we use.
